VIFF Live: The Leading Ladies Perform Duke Ellington’s “The Nutcracker Suite”

Experience The Nutcracker like it’s never been experienced before! First up: Casey Thomas-Burns’ Leading Ladies jazz band perform The Nutcracker Suite, Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn’s swinging reimagining of the classic Tchaikovsky ballet.

After The Ladies’ set, enjoy the Vancouver premiere of Annie Sundberg’s latest documentary, the inspiring tale of how choreographer Troy Schumacher defied Covid and all the odds to mount The Nutcracker at the Wethersfield estate in Hudson Valley in December 2020. It’s the ultimate “We’ll do the show right here” move, a celebration of artistic verve and invention, and the community that comes together to support it.
